Crisis Management

Crisis is a time of difficulty where proper decision should be made in low time. The crisis can be of two types; first, the man-made crisis and second is natural crisis. Across the globe, manmade crisis is more indulging than the natural crisis. Crisis is never ending process, right one after another events of crisis occurs and crisis management is blue print to protect worsening condition of crisis. Crisis management is a strategies to be followed by an organization or a country during the time of crisis. Hence, it is the process to deal with a sudden emergency situation.

Across the globe in today’s context migrant crisis in Europe due to asylum-seeker of war torn countries Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq has been increasing. Recently, Greece suffered from economy crisis and in Spain Catalonians are suffering from identity crisis. In Africa there is huge amount of hunger and nutrition crisis. In fact there are less countries which has not suffered from any sort of crisis. Also, in Nepal recently we suffered from both natural and manmade crisis. A devastating earthquake caused death toll rate high, and at that time of suffering food, medicine and resource crisis occurred and is still in few parts of quake affected district whereas an unofficial blockade caused economy crisis. A long awaiting queue for cylinders and petrol, huddling crowds in micro buses are activities we Nepalese are going through since last six months. Due to lack of proper crisis management the condition is worst and as a result black marketing has reached to peak value in Nepalese market. This proves crisis management is a vital factor for any sort of crisis.

”If you over-react to a crisis, it turns to be a disaster”, a statement by Thomas Watson Jr, certainly proves that any sort of crisis can change the trajectory path of life. During the time of crisis we should work in group and a framework policy is needed to handle it. Like the election was conducted few days ago in Spain whether Catalonian is staying as a part of Spain or not. As a result people voted for separation of Catalonian region from Spain. This result was a big relieved to Catalonians who were demanding for separate identity. Crisis management teaches to be proactive rather than reactive. There should be pre-plan to avoid any future crisis and if crisis occur then post plan should be made by studying the root cause of crisis.

Lastly, we should take a process of crisis management as another opportunity to rebuild the nation or organization. There are many lessons learnt in crisis. During Korean War, there were massive food crisis and in 1980s after the peasant movement the cultivated land was increased and every food was preserved. Since that movement South Korea never imported its food from other countries and in today context it is the sixth largest export economy in the world. Therefore, crisis management is a unique opportunity to explore new potential of the nation and organization.
